Your Partnership in Eye Care

A strong partnership between patient and provider is essential for maintaining healthy eyes and clear vision.

Our team is dedicated to providing education about your eye condition, treatment options, and preventive measures and working closely with you to develop a personalized care plan that meets your unique needs.

Modern & Thorough Diagnostic Technologies

We invest in modern technology to help us diagnose and monitor eye conditions more accurately. Your eye doctor will conduct a thorough exam, explain your results, and discuss available options.

Our practice is equipped with:

  • iCare tonometer: A noncontact method for measuring eye pressure (crucial for detecting glaucoma).
  • Optomap ultra-widefield retinal photography: a noninvasive imaging tool that takes high-definition photos of the retina (the tissue at the back of the eye) to detect early signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and system health conditions.
  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT): a noninvasive tool that provides detailed cross-sectional images of the retina, supporting early detection of conditions like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

Managing Common Eye Conditions

The Treasure Valley Eyecare team can help detect, manage, and treat many common eye conditions and diseases. We also offer Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) screenings to assess medication toxicity.

Cataracts occur when the lens of your eye becomes cloudy, affecting your vision. While primarily associated with aging, other factors—such as diabetes, UV exposure, or smoking—can contribute to their development.

Symptoms can include blurry or hazy vision, difficulty seeing at night, and light sensitivity.

Our optometrists can assess the severity of cataracts and recommend appropriate management options, including:

  • Regular eye exams to monitor cataract progression
  • Updated glasses or contact lens prescription
  • Referral for cataract surgery if necessary

Diabetes can damage the blood vessels in your retina (the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye), leading to diabetic retinopathy. Regular eye exams are crucial for early detection and management, as symptoms can develop slowly.

Common symptoms include blurred vision, seeing spots or floaters, and difficulty seeing at night.

We offer:

  • Comprehensive eye exams to screen for diabetic retinopathy
  • Annual diabetic eye exams for detailed & personalized evaluation
  • Collaboration with your primary care physician for diabetes management

Dry eye occurs when your eyes don’t produce enough tears or when the tears evaporate too quickly. Symptoms include dryness, irritation, burning, stinging, excessive tearing, and blurred vision.

Our optometrists can diagnose and manage dry eye through:

  • Comprehensive eye exams
  • Assessment of tear production & quality
  • Biologic eye drops
  • Dry eye therapy (artificial tears, eye drops, or other treatments)

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) impacts your central vision and is a leading cause of vision loss in adults over 50.

There are 2 forms:

  • Dry AMD is the initial stage, which progresses slowly.
  • Wet AMD can develop quickly and lead to significant vision loss. Symptoms can include seeing distorted lines, muted colors, or loss of central vision.

While there’s no cure for AMD, early detection and management can help slow its progression. Our services include:

  • Comprehensive eye exams to screen for AMD
  • Low vision aids & rehabilitatio
  • Lifestyle modifications to support eye health

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve. It’s one of the leading causes of blindness in the US. Early detection is crucial to prevent vision loss, as damage can progress without noticeable symptoms.

Dr. Mills and Dr. Niedeffer offer:

  • Comprehensive eye exams, including pressure checks
  • Regular monitoring of eye pressure & optic nerve health
  • Dilated eye exams & OCT scans for thorough evaluation

Allergic conjunctivitis is a noninfectious form of pink eye. It can cause uncomfortable symptoms, such as itchy, red (pink), and watery eyes.

We can help manage your symptoms with:

  • Prescription of antihistamine or steroid eye drops
  • Recommendations for over-the-counter relief

The Importance of Managing Myopia

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common refractive error that can be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. However, myopia is progressive, meaning it can worsen during a child’s growing years.

Myopia can increase the risk of developing sight-threatening eye conditions later in life, including glaucoma, cataracts, retinal tears, and macular degeneration.

We offer a comprehensive myopia management program to help slow its progression and protect your child’s long-term eye health.
